Jorge Martin is a member in good standing of The Florida Bar since October 1983. In addition, he is admitted to the Federal Trial Bars for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He is certified as a Circuit Mediator by the Florida Bar.
From April 1994 until his retirement in November 2020, Mr. Martin served as a Senior City Attorney for the City of Tampa, Florida. His tenure at the City included a wide-ranging litigation practice with a substantial number of jury trials and appeals. From 2008 until his retirement, he was responsible for the legal oversight of the City’s Real Estate Division where his duties included the pursuit of all eminent domain cases, the defense of inverse condemnation and regulatory takings cases, and the handling of Bert Harris Act proceedings. Mr. Martin served as the supervising attorney for the City’s Division of Risk Management and its self-insurance program for over twelve years. He also served as the attorney for the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency and as counsel for the City’s Economic Development Administrator where he took an active part in the negotiation and documentation of numerous high-profile development projects throughout the City.
From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Martin was employed as a Senior Attorney for the Resolution Trust Corporation/Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation where he oversaw the legal operations and asset disposition of several thrift and banking institutions in conservatorship in Florida and Georgia.
Mr. Martin was in private practice in South Florida from 1983 through 1990 where he was involved primarily in commercial litigation. He is a longtime resident of Tampa and a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
Mr. Martin received his Juris Doctor Degree with Honors from the University of Miami School of Law in 1983. He graduated from the University of Miami cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Arts and Sciences and a double Major in History and English.
